Shiraz is a major city in southern Iran, located in Fars Province on a fertile plain at the foot of the Zagros Mountains, and it is known for its rich history, gardens, and cultural heritage. It lies well to the south of Tehran in the heart of the Iranian plateau. The straight-line distance from Shiraz to Tehran is about 683 km, though the road distance by highway is closer to roughly 845-930 km depending on the route. Shiraz is situated roughly 347-438 km south of Isfahan, another historic city in central Iran. It is also nearly 993 km southwest of Mashhad, a major northeastern urban center. Other large cities are farther away. For example, Tabriz in the northwest lies over 1,100 km from Shiraz - highlighting Shiraz’s position in the southern part of the country relative to many of Iran’s major towns and cities.
