Images of Iran: Man with Mule, Kermanshah
Kermanshah is situated 525 km from the Iranian capital of Iran and has a much slower, relaxed feel.
In Iran, mules have traditionally been important as hardy working animals, especially in rural and mountainous areas where mechanized vehicles are less practical. They have been bred and used for carrying loads, hauling firewood, timber, and agricultural products along difficult terrain where carts or tractors might not reach, such as in the forests of northern Iran and other rugged regions. Additionally, across Iran’s western borders, mule caravans have been used informally for transporting goods - including fuel and other items - through rough borderland routes, illustrating their continued role in local transport and trade.
